MORE ON NAVAJO RUGS
According to Navajo mythology, Spider Woman taught the ancient Navajo people how to weave rugs. All Navajo rugs are made on a traditional vertical loom, unlike most cultures who use horizontal looms. The Navajos have been weaving blankets/rugs for centuries, although when exactly is not known, sometime in the 17th-18th century. As time has passed, the process for weaving has stayed the same, but refinements have been made to create much finer weavings than have been seen in the past.
